Vodaphone raped me with "roaming" fees as Europe was not Europe.  As soon as I left Italy for France, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, or Britain, I got raped.  Also, be sure to say how much you paid for the phone as you pay full price up front in Europe as the cost of the phone is not subsidized by the carrier.
